ANALYSIS OF THE INVENTORY MANAGEMENT IN A FIVE-STAR HOTEL IN JAKARTA (A CASE STUDY OF FOUR SEASONS HOTEL JAKARTA)
Sunarto, Firdawanti
Imbalance between supply and demand that happened in the hotel industry is quite
become a problem for the hotel including the Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta. Supply
here refers to the capability of the hotel to provide goods which will be needed for
them to perform the service, while the demand here refers to the amount of
occupancy of the hotel. Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta is one of the five-star hotels with
strong-brand image and years of experience. Within the hotel itself, there are so
many types of good that needs to be prepared during the process of delivering the
service to the guests. Lacking for the raw material could distract the overall
performance of delivering the service. Sometimes, of the core point of the problem
is about “timing”. As for the service industry, time is gold. Those who can serve
the better will win. Another possible reason could be because of human-error.
Whatever the reason is, the issue of imbalance could harm the hotel if it’s not
taken-care well. Maximizing the efficiency, effectiveness, sufficiency, and
harmony would be very beneficial for the sake of the existence of the hotel.
Therefore, finding a way out to get rid from the potential problem that impedes us
to achieve the goal is necessary.
This study will try to analyze the operational activity within the Four Seasons Hotel
Jakarta including the supplying cycle and the problems that occur within the
procurement activity. Because the researcher is using the qualitative approach for
writing this thesis, the most suitable method for acquiring the data or information
would be the interview method. The researcher constructs several interview
questions that will be used to obtain the data from the respondent. The respondent
itself will consist of eight people within the Purchasing Department. They are
chosen as the respondent because they are directly involved with the procurement
activity of the hotel.
As for the result of the finding, the researcher found out that the imbalance between
supply and demand especially for the case of Pens and Pencils with the logo is due
to miscalculation and miscommunication among the employee which is very much
related with the Store House. Therefore, inventory management here will play
important role to become the solution of the problem. Applying the technology
related to the inventory management system will be helpful in terms of keeping the
inventory level safe and preventing the same problems keep re-occur.

Ac-cording to the theory, common travel motivation consists of physical, cultural, interpersonal, as well as status and prestige motivators. The conclusion of the research is that physical, cultural, interpersonal as well as status and prestige motivators induce domestic young adult visitors to visit Museum Sejarah Jakarta. In factor analysis, those motivators are extracted and rotated into six new factors that turn out to con-tribute as much as 60.649% to the motivations of domestic young adult visitors. The most contributing factor is Thirst for Culture with its variance value of 14.092%. Also, through weighted mean, it is found that Educational Force is the most dominant factor that motivates domestic young adult visitors. All these fac-tors are useful consideration materials for museum management to reach young adults market segment more effectively and efficiently, so that the number of young adult visitors can grow.
