AUTOMATIC MASH FEEDER FOR POULTRY PRODUCTION BASED ON ARDUINO

Abstract

Chicken consumption in Indonesia increased from 3.5 to 6 kilograms per person per year between 2010 and 2019 and will continue to grow. Poultry is a major source of animal protein due to the religious ban on eating pork for almost 90% of the country’s Muslim population. Demand for chicken in Indonesia is incrementing, which further lures in the demand for the import of technology for keeping, feeding and storage. It is important to maintain health and productivity of poultry through proper nutrition. There are several systems of feeding mash and grain. Controlled feeding of mash and grain, feeding all mash, or other combinations of a complete feed. Each system should accommodate the specific needs of the flock, and be designed for flexibility, low maintenance, and reliability. However, there are several systems that feeder can use to optimize and keeping their installation and operating costs low. One of the ways is that using the automatic mash feeder for poultry production. When installed inside the henhouse, it helps in replacing human to feed the chickens. The system consists of Arduino-based sensor that detect the distance in which the chickens is nearby and ready for the mash, then it automatically opens the valve of the mash container for the chickens to consume it. There is also a timer incorporated in the Arduino in which will close the valve eventually. This automatic mash feeder will significantly help chicken breeder to effectively manage and saving their time to improve another process in poultry production.
