DESIGNING AN INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR INVENTORY MANAGEMENT FOR EXPORT PROJECT USING SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT LIFE CYCLES

Abstract

This project was taken at a company which is one of the subs-contractor company that help other business to maintain their warehouse. The customer of this company has a project to export units of cars with certain type from Indonesia to Sri Lanka. The company under study carry out the project and it is named as Export Project. The current system of inventory was operated in manually using complicated template, some repetitive processes are happened along with the recording process, the other issue appear is the integration of data which is may lead to some errors such as unsynchronized and updating data. According the officers, this problem may happen 2-3 time in a week. Through some methodologies in warehouse management system, information system, database, Data Flow Diagram (DFD) and other supporting literatures, a new inventory information system has been developed with an objective to minimize the efforts required in the project and facing the unsynchronized issues in export project. By applying new application, the process has been able to reduce from 40 processes to 27 processes in total, the time reduced is 42% and the response from the users are good after the system is tested.
