SIGNMATE : DEVELOPING A SIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING PLATFORM

Abstract

The SignMate website is a digital platform aimed at facilitating effective and interactive sign language learning. With the increasing need for accessibility and inclusivity in education, especially for the deaf community, this research seeks to develop a comprehensive learning website that offers a variety of features. This includes a Sign Language Dictionary, learning videos, Live Practice using recognition technology, and interesting quizzes. The platform also includes a history and blog section to enrich users' understanding of the cultural and historical context of sign languages. By integrating modern technology and interactive methods, the platform aims to overcome barriers to sign language learning and expand its accessibility. Technical challenges in developing hand gesture recognition features are discussed, with a focus on optimizing the user experience. Ultimately, SignMate strives to be an effective tool for learning sign language, meeting personal, professional, and educational needs, encouraging social inclusion, and facilitating better communication between the deaf community and society.
