The objective of this project is to create a simple Wireless Sensor Network that can be used to monitor the concentration of pollutant gases in the air. The project utilizes XBee module for radio communication and Arduino Development Board as microcontroller in taking sensors’ readings and data processing. The network consists of a sensor node, a repeater and a receiving node. The sensors used were MQ-4, MQ-7, and DHT11 to monitor the concentration of methane and carbon monoxide gases and to measure the humidity and
temperature of the air. Data were transmitted wirelessly through the air. The
communication was done at 9600 bits per second. Once the connection was established, sensors’ readings were taken and transmitted from the sensor node Arduino to a receiving Arduino. Both the transmitted data and received data were displayed on the serial monitor, and each data matched up perfectly. The range between the sensor node to the receiving node without a repeater was measured at 85 meters and with a repeater was 250 meters. |
