Food is a primary need for every human being. Rice is the staple food that is very much loved by most Indonesian people. As the consumption of rice in Indonesia is very high and important for most Indonesian people, the government pays much attention to this issue. Several laws are stipulated to regulate this special commodity such as production policy, procurement policy, distribution policy, and import policy. By the year 2013, the policies are still effective for the country.
Moreover, the importance of rice links the food with food security in the country
because rice availability really matters for the society. Food security is really
important for a country as food crisis will leave big negative impacts to the
country. Food security, moreover, is not only about food availability, but there are also food accessibility and food use as its other pillars. This qualitative study
covers the food security only in terms of rice, although the other food may be
included in some calculations. In the period of study, Indonesia has done a good job in food (rice) availability, but needs more improvement in the food access and food utilization. |
