Production capacity is one important aspect of the production system. The capacity has to match the demand to be able to supply the customer. In PT.RS Food Factory, the average output during 5 months is not achieved the monthly production target. Based on the observation that conducted, one of reasons why not achieved the target output because of long duration of changeover in Mespack line. According to Focused Improvement (FI) department of PT. RS in 2017, the average changeover duration of mespack machine is 12 hours. The changeover duration is very long accumulated with frequent changeover frequency is 181 times within ± 1 year. Meanwhile, the observation result in Demar line shows that the percentage of labour’s utilization is only around 34-41%. It caused by the operator’s idle time that still high. Several improvements are conducted in packaging process department. One of them is the use of more efficient man power to run the production and reduce the duration time of changeover by implementation of SMED. The improvement result is the changeover duration is decrease from 13 hours to around 3 hours 47 minutes and the production capacity is increase from only produce 25.594 fib per month become 32.321 fib per month. Meanwhile, in demar line the improvement result is the increasing of labor productivity which is around 71-76%. Based on the improvement that proposed, the rest of operator from Demar line will be move into Mespack line which need additional operator. |
