Abstract:
Nowadays, pet ownership is a rising trend. The popularity of pets in social media drives
people to own pets both as form of entertainment and as a companion. Pet ownership
is proven to be beneficial to both physical and mental health of the owner. However,
busy lifestyle found in cities resulted in a lot of abandoned pets, which are later flee and
classified as stray animals. This condition prompted companies to develop robotic pets,
which require minimal attention and therefore, suit the busy lifestyle perfectly. There
are several robotic pets found in the market, but they are too expensive and has little to
no function except as a companion. The original CoFiBot has both pet mode and
firefighting mode, but the firefighting mode is considered ineffective due to low power
and complex procedure. Since there is a high demand for IoT-based home monitoring
system, robotic pets with additional home monitoring function are preferred. Robotic
pets can roam freely in the house while providing information about the house to the
owner by internet connection. This project aimed to develop an IoT-based mammaltype
robotic pet as a successor to the original CoFiBot, with fire alarm and customizable
home monitoring functions instead of the ineffective firefighting function.
