AUTOMATED SUPERMARKET CHECKOUT MACHINE IMPLEMENTING E-WALLET PAYMENT AND ARDUINO RFID

Abstract

As newer technology is developed, more and more activities had been changed from manual to autonomous. Many jobs that had previously done by human are now done by machines. The usage of those technology does not left behind the retail businesses. Many stores had implemented a self-checkout stand to cover the lack of human resources. By having a self-checkout system, business could let customer do their own checkout. This way, business could use their human resources to do a more important job. Although this kind of system had given advantages to businesses, several problem arise as the result. Problems were not only experienced by customers but could also affect the business. One problem include customers having difficulties in operating the system. When customers start having problems like difficulties in scanning their barcodes or when they need to put more effort to understand the system, they will start to feel inconvenient. This could affect the business too as there might be less customer stopping by at the store. Other problem is theft that could disadvantages the business. This thesis aim to give a better self-checkout system by implementing RFID and E-wallet payment. This two features will solve the problems above by being able to make sure that only paid item leave the supermarket. By implementing E-wallet payment, business could deduct payment directly from customers balance and customers do not need to operate the system to process their payment. By improving the self-checkout system, it is hoped that customer will get better experience and that business could get easy store management.
