dc.description.abstract |
The present of natural resources can be the source of armed conflict, the example of this is the armed conflict that happen in sub-Saharan African countries for years this along with weak government contributed to the paradox of plenty that happen in Africa. One of the commodity that become source of conflict is diamond, the great value of diamond become the reason. It is sold in order to fuel the conflict that mostly between government and rebels. The diamond that is used to fund the war called blood diamond or conflict diamond. The war that continues for a long time made the United Nations finally make move, they responded by establishing KPCS or Kimberley Process Certification Scheme with mission to eradicate the blood diamond in the global market and prevent the another blood diamond from entering the market. However the narrow explanation of blood diamonds by United Nations sparks another problems and protest to Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. In this thesis the author will explain how the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme contributing the eradication of blood diamonds and the conflict over natural resources, as multilateral trade regime in sub-Saharan Africa countries and Ivory Coast to be specific. |
