Abstract:
The international community has actively response the humanitarian crisis
resulted by the civil war between the government and opposition forces in the
Republic of South Sudan. Regional organizations, United Nations and sovereign
states have agreed that the humanitarian crisis occurred within the state needs to
be addressed soon. On the behalf of international community, the United Nations
has reinforced its peacekeeping operation, United Nations Mission in South
Sudan (UNMISS). To ensure the fulfillment of human security, UNMISS has
authorized to practice the use of force during its operation. However, the use of
force in UN humanitarian intervention created debates at the international level.
In order to avoid the pros and cons, the UN has set the requirements before the
use of force in the humanitarian intervention is practiced. This research has
proved that the practices of the use of force conducted by UNMISS are legitimate
because UNMISS has proved to be able to accomplish most of the requirement
which has been set.
