Abstract:
Indonesia is a country that has a variety of cultures, so Indonesia needs to introduce its culture to other countries so that many people from abroad can get to know Indonesian culture, and there is no recognition of ownership of Indonesian culture by other countries. The Ministry of Culture and Education has built Rumah Budaya Indonesia (RBI) or Indonesian Cultural Houses in other countries in order to promote Indonesian arts and culture. The purpose of this research is to describe the role of RBI in promoting Indonesian arts and culture in Japan. RBI is a cultural platform that has the goal of promoting Indonesia as a global cultural center and expanding and reinforcing Indonesian culture in the international world. The research aims to examine RBI in promoting Indonesian arts and culture, as well as the Cultural Diplomacy, Public Diplomacy, and Soft power strategies employed by RBI in Japan. The author uses qualitative research to explain the discussed phenomenon as well as Soft Power, Public Diplomacy, and Cultural Diplomacy as the theories used in this research. The primary sources are the internet, books and journals, documents and reports, and media articles. This research demonstrates the various cultural events conducted by RBI in Japan with the aim of cultural promotion. The implementation of RBI events can be analyzed as discourse in the study of international relations by emphasizing the study of Soft Power, Public Diplomacy, and Cultural Diplomacy. The results of this research indicate that RBI acts as a state actor in implementing Soft Power, Public Diplomacy, and Cultural Diplomacy.
