Abstract:
This study was made to explain how the Indonesian government handled the secessionist movement in Aceh in the conflict between Indonesia and GAM. To explain how the Indonesian government handles the secessionist movement in Aceh, the author conducted research using qualitative methods based on relevant literary sources, reports, and papers in understanding this concept starting with understanding the root of this problem by examining the period before the colonial era, the colonial era, until after Indonesia's independence by using the Conflict Resolution framework from Hofmann and Schneckener that links conflict resolution with 3 major working theories in IR such as realism, institutionalism, and constructivism. The result is that the Indonesian government used a realism approach at the beginning of the conflict period, institutionalism towards the end of the conflict, and constructivism in the post-conflict period. This research emphasizes the importance of taking the right approach to tackle this problem at its root to avoid any potential of conflict similar to this to happen in the future.
