The issue of climate change has increasingly been rising since the late 19th century. The
rising temperature of the earth is leading to severe disasters that endanger humans, as well as the
environment. One of the strategies for addressing climate change is by raising environmental
awareness among the young generations through education on environmental issues and
sustainable actions to the environment, therefore they can act sustainably for the environment
when they grow up. Through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method, the children are
encouraged to find and comprehend the material, then carry out the practice, and eventually
encourage them to apply it in their daily life. This project provides the children of Gema Insan
Amanah Foundation practice on how to manage organic waste using maggots while teaching them
to manage inorganic waste by recycling. This project is in line with the value of human rights in
regard to freedom of education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in regard to climate
change. It is expected that this project can be supportive of raising awareness of environmental
issues and sustainable actions for the environment among the young generations. |
