Abstract:
As violence and unrest seizes Nigeria, the Northern African state encounters a
newfound threat to their state security, however, the threat comes from within. Boko
Haram, an extremist group located in Northern Nigeria, amongst the threats that plague
the nation had risen as an insurgency in order to achieve an Islamic Caliphate in Nigeria.
This thesis aims to analyze the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan as it
combats the spread of the Boko Haram Insurgency, throughout the Nigerian state, and
within the Northern Africa region. Utilizing a qualitative method of research, the
information and data collected will be retrieved primarily from relevant research
journals and publications, and state official press release and news articles as a
secondary source. By using a conceptual framework comprising of a brief analysis of
the Strategic Interaction theory and its relation the study case of the Goodluck
administration in its efforts to combat the Boko Haram insurgency from spreading. The
results of this research had provided an understanding to the efforts of the Nigerian
government, and its cooperation with foreign parties, using different approaches to
prevent the Boko Haram insurgency from reaching further regions.
