Abstract:
The occurrence of ethnic massacres in Rwanda which became one of the acts
of genocide has caused serious violations of human rights which the violation drew a
response from international organizations namely the United Nations to provide a
follow-up to the incident based on the convention that approves the provision of
punishment for every act of genocide, so that, the Rwandan genocide is a source of
problems that make a big reason for the establishment of a reconciliation system by the
Rwandan Patriotic Front to restore unity of good relations in the social environment by
giving the right to justice to victims and perpetrators of genocide. The objective of this
study is to find out how the United Nations provided assistance to Rwanda to support
the reconciliation process in 1999 to 2002. This study uses qualitative methods to
analyze the data that has been collected to answer the problems in this study. The
research found that this study showed the United Nations passed resolution 955 to
establish the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) with the aim of
providing justice to the perpetrators of genocide which became one of the important
points to support the reconciliation process.
