Zimbabwe is known for its poverty due to food insecurity, based on article
77 of the Constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe which states the guarantees
towards the right to an adequate food. Meaning citizens of Zimbabwe have the right
to sufficient food and water, hence, the development of agriculture is needed to
achieve food security. However, with challenges from low rainfall, declining soil
fertility, low investment, shortage of agricultural labor, and poverty and food
insecurity decreasing the effectiveness to develop Zimbabwes’ agricultural sector.
Thus, in order to reduce and solve the challenges international cooperation is
needed to provide assistance in developing Zimbabwes’ agricultural sector. The
objective of this research is to find out the cooperation between United Kingdom
Department for International Development and Food and Agriculture Organization
towards the agreement and implementation of the Livelihoods and Food Security
Programme towards agricultural development in Zimbabwe during 2015-2017.
This research will use qualitative methods to analyze the data that has been
collected in answering the problems. The research has showed development and
food security in Zimbabwe improved in nutrition, food, income security, increase
in crops yields, adoption of resilient and sustainable agricultural practices, and the
understanding of modern technology. |
