Abstract:
China is one of the most influential nations in its economy,politics, and security among
China’s neighborhood countries that are enthusiastic to have cooperation whether its
bilateral or multilateral with China to gain their own national interest and so does
China. By this mechanism, China especially under Xi Jinping’s administration have
the power or the authority to control the systemic level through China’s foreign policy
as the instrument that portrays China nowadays as he took power in 2014.
During Xi Jinping’s presidency China has been significantly concerned on it’s
maritime issue, especially on the issue of the South China Sea. It is also really
concerning every claimaints country such as Vietnam as China close neighborhood
country to begin with, this issue has been concerning a lot of nation. This thesis analyze
how President Xi Jinping consider China’s maritime strategic environment in the
making of foreign policy toward Vietnam regarding the South China Sea dispute by
using Foreign Policy Decision Making Theory and National Interest Theory to examine
the highlighting point that geopolitical issue indeed play a role to create China’s
national interest under Xi jinping’s administration. These findings apply a qualitative
method to analyze the result that come’s up within this study.
