dc.description.abstract In engineering industry, the need for a variety of material is particularly high to support the existence of innovation and development of product and machine manufacture. Each material has its own characteristics which is studied and material is selected for special purpose. One of the tools used to perform material testing is Universal Testing Machine. Universal Testing Machine (UTM) is a material testing machine which has more than one type of material testing. This research discusses about design and analysis of construction strength of UTM. It is consists of tensile test and bending test. The design of this machine uses a bottle jack as load source to give pressure to perform both tensile and bending load. The design is limited to a compressive load of 1400 kg or 14000 N and a maximum construction load of 5000 kg. From the results of analysis and evaluation, the tool can be used in accordance with the parameters used. From the experiment, the result of flat metal specimen with dimension of 200 × 40 × 6.5 mm is the specimen is successfully bent. There are several suggestions for this tool, the punch and die design should follow the standard so that the bending results can be optimized and the load capacity of the bottle jack can be increased for greater bending load. en_US
