The shape and surface roughness of a product produced by a machine, such as a
lathe for example, plays an important role. In this case caused by the roughness and shape
of the product related to wear, friction, lubrication system and others. In the machining
process will determine surface roughness at different levels where the surface roughness
can be used as an evaluation of machining products. Surface roughness on a product does
not have to have a large or small value, roughness of a product requires different values
according to its function. One product that requires a low roughness value is the shaft.
In the analysis of surface roughness, the step taken is to choose the type of
workpiece material. For the selection of material in the analysis of roughness this time the
material used is SS304 and SS316. The next process is the process of making workpieces
with a manual lathe with variations in rotational speed, feeding speed and depth of cut that
has been determined on each workpiece.
In collecting surface roughness data on each workpiece that has been determined,
the surface roughness value obtained in the smallest workpiece material is 2,419 μm at a
rotational speed of 1000 rpm by feeding 0.10 mm/r and the value of surface roughness on
the workpiece material the largest is 8.425 μm at a rotational speed of 1000 rpm with
feeding 0.15 mm/r. |
