dc.description.abstract Transboundary haze pollution has become a problem that occurs every year in Southeast Asia. Indonesia, as one of the contributors of smoke, has drawn criticism from neighboring countries and even the international community. The burned land in Indonesia is partly peatland that play a major role in carbon sequestration. The burned peatland cause a greenhouse gas effect. By that environmental diplomacy is needed by ASEAN to tackle this issue. Then an ASEAN agreement on transboundary haze pollution was formed in 2002 and it took 12 years for Indonesia to ratify the agreement until finally Indonesia ratified the agreement in 2014. However there are challenges on implementing the AATHP, one of them is lack of coordination among nations. Environmental diplomacy in Indonesia then needed as the key to balance the national interest and regional pressure. President Joko Widodo then formed a non-structural body called the Indonesia Peatland Restoration Agency under Presidential Regulation (BRG) No. 1 of 2016. The main focus of this thesis is the role of the Indonesia Peatland Restoration Agency in supporting the ASEAN agreement on transboundary haze pollution. en_US
