Abstract:
Muammar Qaddafi and his regime are quite a sensation given to his authoritarian rule and terrorism issue that linked him as the mastermind behind the attack on several countries. A sign of dissatisfaction also lied out towards the government from the Libyan people as a massive demonstration carried out on February 15th, 2011 which resulting in a clash between the government and its people. The clash soon transformed into a Civil War as violence keep occurring and garnering lots of victims.
As the conflict continues to grow, France and the International community sees this as a threat —considering the distance, impact and their interests. UNSC Resolution 1970 and 1973 released, allowing states to conduct military operations in an effort to stop escalating casualties and the war at the same time. Therefore, this thesis emphasizes the implementation of France and NATO military operation —Operation Harmattan and Operation Unified Protector — in Libyan 1st Civil War (2011). Complemented with the conflict background, interests and motivations of France and NATO in which supported realism theory and the concept of military operation other than war, thus also connected with their defense policy in deciding to help Libya ending their war and casualties by deploying their forces.
