Sister city is one of the collaborations carried out by the city or provincial government. The similarities between the two cities or provinces are the basis of this collaboration, such as geographical conditions and city activities. Seeing the great opportunities in establishing foreign cooperation, especially in terms of cooperation agreements, one of which is the form of sister city, Bandung as one of the largest cities in Indonesia and the Capital of West Java also takes advantage of this form of cooperation. Since November 2015, the city of Bandung has been cooperating with sister city with the Government of the City of Petaling Jaya, one of the cities in the country of Selangor, Malaysia. These two cities have several similarities that support the establishment of this sister city collaboration, Bandung and Petaling Jaya are cities that become satellites of the national capital. This research aims to find out why the city of Bandung chose to collaborate with the City of Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, as the sister city; to analyze the collaboration between the City of Bandung and Petaling Jaya; and to provide additional knowledge for the world of education, and the main objective is to find out more about the continuation of diplomatic and bilateral relations between the two cities. By employing a descriptive approach, the researcher uses qualitative research. In addition, the researcher applies the secondary data or data arranged in indirect form, such as the relevant documents or literature related to the formulation of the problem under study. The researcher found that the collaboration between the City of Bandung and the City of Petaling Jaya covers the fields of economic development and trade, tourism, education, culture, and other fields which are agreed upon subsequently. Sister City cooperation relationship between the City of Bandung and Petaling Jaya has an impact on increasing the potential of the City of Bandung. This collaboration is also well implemented and very active every year as evidenced by the implementation of periodic programs and the two cities plan to compile new programs with a wider scope of fields. Thus, the goals of the City of Bandung and Petaling Jaya with this collaboration can make these two cities compete in the global market, especially in the field of tourism. |
