dc.description.abstract Thesis Title: The Role of British Council in Contributing to the UK’s Soft Power Through Cultural Diplomacy in Indonesia (2014-2017) The role of non-state actors bringing the country's mission has been growing and increasingly taken into account in carrying out its activities. The effort to use the role of non-state actors is a practical part of soft power. The way is applied by United Kingdom in driving soft power action in Indonesia through the active role of one of the UK's NGo, the British Council. This is categorized as a non-departmental public body which is an institution that focuses on cultural relations which is an extension of Foreign Commonwealth and Office (FCO). In carrying out its duties the British Council shall be in conformity with the purpose stated in the Royal Charter. Overall cultural activities undertaken by the British Council are the efforts of British soft power in Indonesia through the way of cultural diplomacy, while the focus of the British Council's work in Indonesia includes art, English, education and society. Given the importance of the British Council's role in bringing the UK mission to soft power in Indonesia through cultural diplomacy, this research will discuss the active role of the British Council through cultural diplomacy activities in Indonesia.
