AUSTRALIA – INDONESIA PARTNERSHIP THROUGH PROMOTING RURAL INCOME THROUGH SUPPORT FOR MARKETS IN AGRICULTURE: A CONTRIBUTION TO RURAL INCOMES IN EASTERN INDONESIA (2014-2017)

Abstract

Poverty is one of the most fundamental problems in every countries, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. The poverty rate in Indonesia can be considered high especially in rural areas in the eastern part of Indonesia where the majority of the population work in the agricultural sector and has low income. However, to overcome this problem Indonesia cannot work alone, but must cooperate with other countries. On the other hand, Australia has a commitment to assist developing countries in the Indo-Pacific region through its foreign aid. One of the countries that received foreign aid from Australia is Indonesia. Australia and Indonesia then formed a partnership to increase the income of poor farmers in eastern part of Indonesia by developing the agricultural sector so as to reduce poverty. In this thesis, the author will answer the question of how Australia-Indonesia partnership in rural development through agriculture can contribute to farmer income in rural areas in eastern Indonesia (2014-2017). This thesis will also explain how this partnership will contribute to Australia as a foreign aid provider. The method that used in this thesis is a qualitative methodology, the authors collect primary and secondary data and collaborate the data obtained descriptively. Thus, the result of this research is the partnership between Australia and Indonesia in developing rural areas through the agricultural sector and the contribution of this partnership to increase the income of farmers in rural areas of eastern Indonesia which will contribute to Australia and Indonesia trade in the future
