Abstract:
This thesis will analyzed the contribution of Agency for Cultural Affairs by analyzing the activities of Agency for Cultural Affairs on promoting manga and anime as parts of Japanese Media Arts, specifically in Indonesia in the period of 2015 until 2017. This research will using the qualitative methods with the analyze using the primary data from Agency for Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. This research find out that in 2006, Japan realized the importance of popular culture such as manga, and anime in Japanese diplomacy. Therefore, the government of Japan tries to use this opportunity as one of the Japanese instruments in achieving its national objective as the Agency for Cultural Affairs by implementing the Fourth Basic Policy on the Promotion of Culture and the Arts in 2015. This thesis will be analyzed using the concept of Soft Power and Cultural Diplomacy that will be seen from the contribution of Agency for Cultural affairs on promoting manga and anime in Indonesia. The result of this thesis found out that the Agency for Cultural Affairs has contributed to promoting Japanese culture overseas especially in Indonesia in 2015- 2017 since the implementation of the Fourth Basic Policy on the Promotion of Culture and the Arts in 2015.
