A Movement to Raise the Awareness about the single-use plastic to MSMEs in Malang

Abstract

This project purpose is to give a form of community services regarding the achievement process of SDG’s about environment to reduce the number of plastic waste. The growing trend of Small-Business and enterprises in Indonesiaare rapidly develop. Malang, one of the city in east Java, is very popular and known as a ‘friendly-based’ city for tourism. It has become one of the greatest plastic-waste ‘donors’ in Indonesia nowadays as plastic is considered as a cheap yet very efficient material to use in single use products. This project called “Cananga Movements” aims to give a form of community service to help spreading awareness to locals about the current issues that humanity faced such as climate change, and uncontrolled plastic waste. Theories, action, and direct implementation in society is done to answer the objectives of this project. The implementation of the three main missions of this project contain a form of prevention about the danger and domino effect of plastic-waste in the future. The action was taken by providing workshop about waste treatment, waste understanding approach through movie screening, as well as beach clean-up activity to directly reduce the existence of waste in the beach ecosystem. This is intended to provide educating activities, enhancing micro-small to medium enterprises, as well as establishing a better understanding in society. These actions expected to give a more comprehensive result on how local community could be more aware towards plastic waste.
