Abstract:
Indonesia is located between 3 world plates which causes frequent occurrences of natural disasters that damage roads and residential buildings. When a natural disaster occurs, it is difficult to get concrete materials to build buildings. Coconut coir is assumed to be a substitute for coarse aggregate to make temporary concrete. Indonesia as an archipelagic country produces around 3 million tons based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture. This research was conducted with the aim of utilizing coconut waste and producing temporary non-structural concrete for coastal areas in emergency conditions. The research was conducted by quantitative method, using coconut coir
measuring 2x2cm as coarse aggregate 1,092.26 kg/m3, Portland cement 336.36 kg/m3, fine aggregate 691 kg/m3, and water as much as 185 kg/m3. The result of this research is the average compressive strength of normal concrete is 16.99 MPa, while the average compressive strength of concrete with coconut coir as coarse aggregate is 8.49 MPa.
