dc.description.abstract YKL Indonesia (Yayasan Konservasi Laut Indonesia) is an NGO engaged in marine conservation campaigns in South Sulawesi, such as NVDA (Non-Violent Direct Action), discussing environmental issues in the world. These aquatic conservation activities include planting mangroves and preserving coral reefs, and what often happens in Indonesia is the spread of plastic waste on the sea coast, especially in Makassar. The spread of plastic waste on the beach is the most severe problem in Indonesia. The scattered plastic waste is a problem in marine biota and marine ecosystems. Therefore several NGOs, such as YKL Indonesia (Yayasan Konservasi Laut Indonesia), took part in the situation. Therefore, this research focuses more on how YKL Indonesia (Yayasan Konservasi Laut Indonesia) implements the sustainability of the issue of plastic waste in the seas of South Sulawesi. This paper uses the theory/conceptualization of "environmental sustainability" Because the YKL Indonesia (Yayasan Konservasi Laut Indonesia) makes a sustainable contribution that has a positive impact on the environment, especially on people who live on the coast or small islands, such as those carrying out beach clean-ups to reduce the spread of plastic waste on the coast, this concept and research support the existence of sustainable development, on environmental issues. The theory of non-governmental organizations emphasizes these organizations' critical role in solving global crises. However, it also recognizes the obstacles and controversies surrounding their role in development and governance. The method used in this research is qualitative, taken from the interview with the Director of YKL Indonesia (Yayasan Konservasi Laut Indonesia), YKL Indonesia (Yayasan Konservasi Laut Indonesia) website, journals, and government agencies or communities. This paper aims to analyze the extent of YKL (Marine Conservation Foundation) as a Non-Government Organization and its contribution to the problem of spreading waste on the coast. en_US
