The on-going conflict in West Papua involving TPNPB-OPM has always been a concern that is continuously covered by the
news media. The purpose of this research is to discern the framing of BBC News Indonesia and Suara Papua using qualitative
descriptive method with four framing devices by Pan and Kosicki as the main theory and analysis tools, supported by
objectivity theory by Jorgen Westerstahl as an effort in getting deeper interpretation. This research demonstrates that two
media being compared for its framing are not always having different stances in representing a reality regardless of differences
in the media background. However, BBC News Indonesia and Suara Papua shows the opposition and different viewpoint
between the news sources included in each news article. Moreover, this research shows that impartiality is no longer fully
implemented when covering a reality. |
