SOCIAL PROJECT ALPHABETS: PROVIDING READING LESSONS TO THE CHILDREN AT RUMAH PELITA (PEDULI LITERASI ANAK INDONESIA) "EXPLORE WORLDS BETWEEN THE PAGES"

Abstract

Reading is one of the important skills that should be learned in pursuit of education. By reading one could gain knowledge, develop their mind and enhance their cognitive skill. Education is one of the important aspects that need to be improved in order to reach sustainable development. Sustainable Development Goals number 4, Quality education, is the foundation to improve people's lives. Through education one could gain knowledge and developing skill in order that is needed in the future. Moreover, education is a fundamental human right. Everyone regardless of race, gender and background are entitled to this right. Social project Alphabets aims to provide reading lessons to the children in Rumah Pelita. Most of the children who are studying under Rumah Pelita guidance are underprivileged childrens who do not go to school and cannot read. The method that we use to conduct the lessons is by elaborating reading lessons with activities that could keep the children enthusiastic and develop their skills and creativity. The activities that we choose are reading tutoring, art and craft, farming, and making a curtain of hope. Based on the committee's observation most of the children who received learning lessons are able to meet the indicator of success in the learning sessions.
