THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA CULTURAL DIPLOMACYTHROUGHCONFUCIUS INSTITUTE IN INDONESIA (2016- 2019)

Abstract

The Emerging power, the People’s Republic of China has been seen as challenge to the international community. Chinese rise, China global ambition, progressively China has been taking further steps with approach toward international community through economic liberalization and modernization. Starting with its neighbors, ASEAN, China has been keen to exercise its leadership and expand influence in multilateral and bilateral level. Indonesia as one of Chinese largest partners in the region has been a critical partner of China in promoting its national interest. China with its new approach towards cultural soft power through Confucius Institute determine to attract and to connect with Indonesia. China has been deployed its cultural values and language to win the Indonesian heart. This paper analyzes the importance, role, and strategies that Confucius Institutes in Indonesia as agent in promoting Chinese language and values through the year of 2016- 2019.
