Abstract:
This research generally aims to obtain an understanding of the role conflicts experienced by female employees in PT. Jakarta International Container Terminal. A working mother is more likely to experience the role conflict, as they are holding two roles at the same time. They have to work as employees in a company while on the other hand they are also required to be wife and mother for their children at home. The focus of this study was to analyze the role conflicts experienced by permanent female employees in PT. JICT, the reason for these conflicts is happening, the impacts of it affecting the female employees, and also how do they manage their roles. The researcher used a qualitative case study for the method in this study. Through interviewed 13 permanent female employees who are married and also have children. This study provides a frame work using role conflicts theory to analyze female employee role conflicts experiences in daily life. The study found That female employees at PT JICT do experience Bi-directional role conflicts which consist of Work-Family conflict and Family-Work conflicts. Female employees in PT JICT experience role conflict based on three factors which is internal factors, external factors (spouse, children, job problem), and relational factors. The impact of women role conflicts on female employees in PT JICT mostly more like psychological effect like tension, tired, stress, often to feeling guilty to their children. For managing their roles some of female employees in PT JICT use some special ways to handle it like proper planning or priority, and some of the female employees does not use special ways to manage their roles only try their best to living the dual roles as a mother and as an employee.
