INDONESIA RESPONDS TO CHINA UNILATERAL TERRITORIAL CLAIM IN THE SEA OF NATUNA ISLANDS

Abstract

Natuna Islands is one of the Islands located in the Pacific Ocean from northern Indonesia, Natuna Island is claimed by China through the latest Nine Dash Line map in 2009. Based on the exclusive economic zone (EEZ), Natuna Islands is a legal territory of Indonesia. related to China unilateral claims in Natuna Islands Indonesia has made responds in form of defending its own territory. The responds that Indonesia made from year 2015 to 2019. In the latest China new Nine Dash Line map which are included Indonesia territorial area, this claim is as a threat to Indonesian territory sovereignty, that made Indonesia explicitly take action with the aim of reducing and eliminating various activities that violate the rule of law in the Indonesia border region to secure their territory. The research method that the author uses in the preparation of this regard is qualitative. Data collection techniques used by the authors through library research, sourced from various literatures such as books, articles, daily newspapers, related official website, and journals. The result of this study indicate that China unilateral claim in the Natuna Islands disturbing Indonesia's sovereignty that belongs to Indonesia. And through the occurrence of China's claim in Natuna Islands is a strong warning to the Indonesian government so that Indonesia pays more attention to its sovereign territory. and more attention must be given to the existing security in Natuna Islands to strengthen the sovereignty of its maritime territory in order to avoid claims by foreign countries that will utilize Indonesia's natural resources.
