Thesis Title: Indonesia’s Efforts in Countering Terrorism under President Joko Widodo Administration In The Case Of ISIS (2014-2017) Terrorism has been a global phenomenon which threatens the stability of a state caused by the rise of radicalism, religious extremism, political, social and economic matters. The term is seen as the use of violence such as bombing, kidnapping, murdering, hijacking, armed assaults and torturing to create fear to achieve certain goal. As in this research, it will be discussing about the influence of ISIS that could lead to the terrorism related-matters. ISIS has been the most well-known terrorist organization that becomes the worldwide enemy incluing for Indonesia which is entitled as one of the largest Muslim population countries. With the high number of Muslim population, Indonesia is a target of ISIS in expanding its influence. This threat has concerned the government, especially given the number of terrorist attacks occurred in the country ranging from Bali bombing I (2002), The Australian Embassy in Jakarta Suicide Bombing (2004), The Bali bombing II (2005), and the suicide bombing and mass shooting in Thamrin area Jakarta (2016). Therefore, this research employs qualitative method utilizing journals, report, official documents, and books to analyze the efforts of Indonesian government in countering terrorism under President Joko Widodo Administration from 2014-2017 particularly to against the influence of ISIS. This research employs constructivism and securitization theories. The efforts discussed are in the form of soft approach that is known as Counter Violent Extremism as one of the ways the Indonesian Government securitize the state from the spreading influence of ISIS that is implemented by National Agency for Combatting Terrorism (BNPT), State Intelligence Agency, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah. en_US
