Abstract:
In this era of globalization, as competition intensifies, providing quality products has become a competitive advantage and a need to ensure survival. The purpose of this research is defect reduction through proposing the improvement of product CCK59 that have a high occurrence defect rate in the polymer manufacturing company. The Six Sigma problem solving methodology DMAIC has been one of the several techniques to improve the quality. This research follows the DMAIC approach to investigate the root cause of defect product and provide a solution to reduce or eliminate them. The 2k Factorial Design, hypothesis testing and two-way ANOVA techniques were combined to statistically determine whether two key process factors, raw material and standard packing had an impact on the number of defect product, as well as to find the best combination to reduce or eliminate the defects. The analysis from implementing Six Sigma and DMAIC indicated that the raw material and standard packing influenced the amount of deformation of CCK59. In this research, there are two alternatives of proposed improvements. The first alternative can reduce 74% of deformation with 3.7 sigma level and the second alternative has given significant reduction of deformation which is 100% with 6 sigma level.
