Abstract:
Mini Lab Core Sampler is a cane shredder machine which developed by PT. UTPE to help
the sugarcane farmers for producing juice from the sugarcane. During trial process of Mini
Lab Core Sampler, the electric motor of shredder unit has a significant temperature rise and
it becomes overheated. The temperature has exceeded the allowed temperature limit and
burned the winding of electric motor. This problem is caused by insufficient air circulation
on the shredder motor housing. The hot air which caused by the electric motor cannot comes
out from the housing. This research is discussing about designing and analyzing the cooling
system for shredder motor housing of Mini Lab Core Sampler. The shredder motor housing
is added with exhaust fan. It will force the air flow out from housing. The air flow inside the
housing is assumed the same with the fluid flow inside a piping system to help the analysis
process. The result of this cooling system is the electric motor of shredder unit can operate
in constant condition without having problems like in the past and increase operation time
from 2 months to >3 months. The comparison of calculation result and actual measurement
of this design has error value about 7,6%, because of the assumption and using IR
thermometer for temperature measurement.
