Abstract:
Bulletproof vests are one of the war equipment commonly used by soldiers in every country. This vest is useful for minimizing the damage caused by bullets so that there is no fatal injury or even death. Over time, bulletproof vests continue to evolve to become tough and lightweight products. However, the obstacles faced in processing bulletproof vests are the vest's limited material and the vest's relatively high price. Overcome this problem. It is necessary to find alternatives bulletproof vest that can compete with those commercial vest ones.
This thesis compared the performance of two alternative vests against the commercial ones used by the Indonesia National Army. The vest's material compared in this thesis was explained at a certified lab. It was revealed that the commercial's main components are the fabric that is suspected as Kevlar and manganese steel. The first alternative vest has the composition Ti6Al4V and soft PVC, while the second one has polyethylene fabric as an additional key material.
This thesis qualitatively analyzed the performance of the vest. It is revealed that the second alternative vest has good resistance capability and excellent in terms of bullet resistance to weight.
