This thesis discusses about the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility
program of Monsanto towards the local farmers in developing country like South
Africa during 2007 2010. In 2002, Monsanto as Multi-National Corporation that
come from the super power country like the United States of America purchased
the biggest two agricultural seed company from South Africa and merged them
become Dekalb brand. This thesis analyze how Monsanto implement the corporate
social responsibility program to the local farmers in South Africa, further the case
in Makhathini Flats region. In order to have a good image in front of the local
farmers, Monsanto have a cooperation with non-governmental organization in
South Africa such as African Agriculture Technology Foundation, International
Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, and National Agriculture Research Systems
in South Africa. Besides that, to implement their program Monsanto got funded
from the United States Agency for International Development and Gates
Foundation. This thesis use qualitative approach with a clear descriptive writing.
The writer found that, the implementation corporate social responsibility program
by Monsanto has increased the life of local farmers in South Africa. Program the
water efficient maize for Africa, the seeds of campaign, and funded to Buhle
Academy as non-governmental organization to give the training over local farmers
across South Africa region. This thesis uses the English School of International
Relations theory and corporate social responsibility concept that becomes the
umbrella for corporate social responsibility on the implementation program by
Monsanto towards the local farmers in South Africa. Materials and data for this
thesis were obtained from the official publication of the Government, African
Center for Biosafety, and Agriculture of South African White Paper, official
statement from the Monsanto's Head of Government Affairs and Public Affairs
South Africa, Monsanto Technology/Stewardship Agreement and Monsnto's
pledge report. This thesis also uses Books, Journal, News, and E-book related
corporate social responsibility from Monsanto to the local farmers in South Africa
region. |
