KIM JONG-UN'S DIPLOMACY IN ACHEVING PEACE AND SCURITY IN THE KOREAN PENINSULA: RESPONSES TOWARDS UNITED STATES SANCTIONS (2011-2018)

Abstract

After the death of his father, Kim Jong-il, Kim Jong-un has officially become the next Supreme Leader in the DPRK. There are many people questioning about how come Kim Jong-un in such a young age can be chosen as the DPRK’s Supreme Leader. However, despite all of questions that Kim Jong-un got, Kim Jong-un can successfully show to the world that he can rule the DPRK based on his personal ability. Since he got the power to rule the DPRK, Kim Jong-un has facing a lot of problem, one of the problems which make Kim Jong-un kind of busy with His work is the problem that occurred in the Korean Peninsula area. Korean Peninsula area is an area which consists of sixth countries in it, which are the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), the Republic of Korea (ROK), the Russian Federation (RF), the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Japan, and the United States (U.S). This sixth countries are known to have the same goals for the future of peace and security in the Korean Peninsula. One of their goals is to make the situation in the Korean Peninsula can remain stable and also can be free from the use of nuclear weapons. Therefore, the present of Kim Jong-un as the Supreme Leader of the DPRK will be discussed in this research. This research will tell the readers regarding Kim Jong-un’s diplomacy way in achieving peace and security in the Korean Peninsula itself by using the qualitative research methodology as the method of the research and also by using public diplomacy as the theoretical framework of the research. This research will also explain about the U.S economic sanctions and also U.S foreign policies which the DPRK got from the U.S because of the DPRK’s actions on several matters, especially the creation and the development of the DPRK’s nuclear weapons. The other thing which will be discuss is the result of the diplomacy which have been done by Kim Jong-un with the aim to achieve peace and security in the area of Korean Peninsula.
