dc.description.abstract This thesis concerns about improvement of an assembly line in PT. SWYM to improve condition in the current line. Increasing the line efficiency is the focus of this research to improve the line. The objective of this thesis is to increase the line efficiency in order to achieve the production target and to eliminate overtime. The observation is done by collecting data of each operation using time study. In the analyze step, it has been found the cause of the problem which are poor work arrangement in workstations and inadequate number of operators. Then it has been employed the Rank Positional Weight method to improve the assembly line. The recommendations for improving assembly line are rearranging work elements and meeting the appropriate number of operators. The result shows that improvement in the production process is very good. The amount of output increases from four units to eight units which also means the production target has been achieved. The labor cost could be reduced for about Rp 3,348,400 per month by eliminating overtime cost. Line efficiency increases from 68.5% to 98.26 %. en_US
