Abstract:
Japan has become a country with numerous unique cultures that become the brand of the nation. As in the concept of soft power, the cultures is seen as a nation’s resources to approach other countries or to give a positive image towards global’s perspective. According to Article 9 of Constitution where Japan is prohibited in using its military power, the soft power become the only option for Japan in doing international cooperation. By applying the concept of international cooperation by Robert O. Keohane and the theory of soft power by Joseph Nye, the author would like to explain the utilization of a program by Japanese government named International Manpower Development Organization Japan (IM Japan) Internship Program as a tool of soft power diplomacy from Japan to Indonesia that focusing on Jambi Province. The author would like to explain the impact of this internship program in building a positive image towards Japan from certain values such as cultural event, language and attitude. This thesis is conducted using a descriptive qualitative research method.
