Abstract:
This topic first arises from the researcher’s concern to the low media literacy awareness in the researcher place. Therefore, it results in many miscommunications, mistreated information, HOAX spreading, etc. Therefore, by doing this research the researcher hopes to help increase the awareness of media literacy and help the future people who read this research understand better about the proper news value and its relation to the media that published it. This research will use theory from A. Teun Van Dijk (News-as-Discourse) and Monika Bednarek (News Discourse) to analyze news articles from national and international news platform. By using Discourse Aanalysis (DA), the researcher is not limited to only analyzing the news articles but it can also relate the results to another factor regardless of the disciplines. Also, by using DA the researcher hopes to find and see the power imbalance. In the end, the researcher finds power imbalance in the way national and international news platform serves news. Starting from the wrong utilization of direct quotation and indirect speech that can distract the reader to the lack of utilization of eliteness value. The lack of eliteness utilization can reflect poorly on the country because it can make people to that the country is not appreciative. Then, later in time can be generalized to its people character. The international news platforms also has the tendencies to present opinions and facts which might offend another party, create a bad image or even create a stereotype
