Abstract:
This research examines the victims of body shaming’s perspective towards body positivity movement on social media, which has become global attention lately. This research aims at unfolding on how the victims of body shaming perceive the influence of body positivity movement into their personal life using self-perception theory and how they fulfill their needs by joining this movement by the use of social media using Uses and Gratification Theory. The body positivity movement that the researcher chose for this research is Peluk Diri Project which created by Candrika Anggayasti Soewarno. Using qualitative research method, the data of this research are collected from 8 female participants of Peluk Diri Project as the informants which the interview results is then used to be analyzed in order to find the result and findings of the research problem. This research reveales that body positivity movement gives positive impact to victims’ life in many aspects and this research also finds out that people usually tend to follow what they see and deem as interesting, which will consequently affects how they perceive things, think and act. Researcher also found out that through their interest and participation in this body positivity movement, the participants are fulfilling their cognitive, affective and personal integrative needs according to Uses & Gratification The
