Abstract:
The threat towards Indonesia is always there; nevertheless the real face-to-face war which involves two countries or more has no longer existed since the end of independence war known as Military Aggression I and II from 1945 to 1949. Then, the role of Indonesian military forces are questioned in time of idle due to Indonesia's status is as an non aligned country decides to defend her own sovereignty and integrity rather than involves in the war with other country by invading like conducted by the U.S. entitled as a hegemonic country. Indonesia through her defence policy, the Doctrine of Indonesian Military Forces Tridarma Ekakarma (Tridek) based on the regulation of military forces commander in Perpang/45/VI/2010 15 June 2010, decided to conduct Military Operations Other Than War (MOOTW) besides merely focus to prepare for the worst of the last sort known as Military Operations of War (MOW). MOOTW is also conducted as the part of Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA) and Indonesian military reform since the beginning of reform. Because MOOTW was pioneered by a hegemonic country, the U.S., and Indonesia has tied military relations to the U.S. since her independence, it does not mean Indonesia fully adopts the U.S.' MOOTW. By her own character based on her stance, ideology, historical background, and military experience, Indonesia conduct her own MOOTW.
