Abstract:
There are many kinds of poetry, ranging from sonnets, haiku, ode, lyric,
narrative, descriptive, allegory, elegy, contemporary to free verse poetry. Free
verse poetry is a form of poetry that does not follow any rules, it can be written in any way the writer would like, therefore it is most of the time easier to create and also easier to understand. Poetry lets you express yourself and your inner feelings by pouring them into writing.
Teenagers and young adults go through a lot of roller-coaster emotions,
and if they were not taught to channel them through the right way, their potentials and creativity will go to waste. They need to be guided towards many available forms of art, especially poetry.
According to the national Survey of Public Participation in the Arts
(SPPA), it shows that starting from the year 2002, the readers of poetry have decreased in an almost perfect linear line by 45% without any sign of increasing. The objective of the research here is to raise awareness among the youth about poetry by bringing it back using modern approach. Relatable and modernized free-verse poems are one way to get their attention because these might be applicable to their actual lives. Along with pretty illustrations and interesting designs it will surely get them interested and hopefully also inspire them to write their own.
