Abstract:
Small Group Communication has their own communication patterns. Connect Group consisting of 5 – 15 people is a community based on Mawar Sharon Church. As Its objectives are to give life-experience sharing and God’s word sharing, the community organizes a religious service once a week. In addition, the community provides mentorship in order to motivate all members and remind them of the God’s words. This study was set out to describe the patterns of small-group communication in Connect Group Pro-M 81 Cikarang. Furthermore, the study would also describe the communicative competence, communicative situations, communicative events, and communicative acts within the community. This study employed qualitative methodology with ethnography of communication as the primary approach to develop the research of five participants selected purposively. Data obtained from participative observation and interviews were analyzed by selecting relevant data and grouped into certain categories. The result of the study showed that communicative competence should build this community achieve their goals, communicative situations were conducive using informal Indonesian language. Participants saw the community as their second family. Communicative events on the community were in form of religious services. Topics discussed were closely related to share the God’s words, Christianity values related to daily life. Setting took place in a restaurant around Lippo Cikarang every Friday. Communicative acts were in form of directions and messages delivered by leader to its members in order to turn God’s words in to practice in daily activity. All participants admitted that they experienced changes as they began to learn from Connect Group Community.
