Abstract:
As a visual medium, the film delivers stories through images by using character actions, settings, situations, or locations within a frame. A screenplay is a story script that outlines the sequence of scenes, places, circumstances, and dialogues, arranged in the context of a dramatic structure. Not all events can be recorded by the camera or visualized as easily but filming thoughts and emotions are not easy so the screenwriter has to externalize them. Visual writing can reveal the character's emotion in the screenplay. This is a screenwriting technique that uses specific scene descriptions and the character's action. This research departs from the main problem for most screenwriters according to Syl Field in The Story Department "Evolution / Revolution" is when they want to explain the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of the characters who explained mostly using dialogue or words rather than explaining by visually. In this research, I want to apply visual writing to reveal the character's emotions in the screenplay film ''Monophobia'' which is to find out how the screenplay can express the character's emotions when a film presents it visually. The results of this research can be proven that the technique of visual writing can reveal the character's emotions in the screenplay of the horror genre film '' Monophobia '' especially that horror films will bring more emotion when the film delivers the story with minimal dialogue and more to the character gesture.
