Abstract:
The Implementation of China’s Soft Power in Indonesia: A Case Study of Confucius Institute’s Role to Attract Jakarta Students to Learn Mandarin (2016 – 2019). China is one of the countries that have superpowers in the world; China always develops its power in any sector. For example, like the economic, diplomatic, tourism, defense sector (Military, Weapon, etc.), the cultural sector, etc. but in this thesis, the author would like to focus on China’s soft power, which is primarily cultural sector in Indonesia. In this thesis, the author would like to discuss how China use their power as Cultural diplomacy in Indonesia. However, this thesis will use soft power and cultural diplomacy as a theoretical framework. In this thesis, the author also will be using a qualitative Method to solve the cases to get the information for this thesis. Before talking about the analysis, the author would like to explain the relations between Indonesia-China from before independence until normalization of Indonesia-China relations. For the last the author will discuss on how does Confucius Institute (CI) influence Indonesian Students especially in Jakarta to learn about Chinese language (Mandarin) from 2016-2019, it can be explained from CI’s programs because from their programs CI can get the attention from Indonesian students to join and learn the Chinese language (Mandarin). Not only about that, but the author also will explain the effort of China government for Confucius Institute Indonesia and will explain the response of Indonesian students for the implementation of CI in Indonesia, especially in UAI.
