Abstract:
One of the transnational crimes that have invaded in everyday lives of the people in the Southeast Asian region is the illicit drug trafficking issue –producing, trafficking, and consumption, especially the Golden Triangle area where it is the second most producing illicit drug in the world. As globalization occurs in the 21st century, the effect it has to the nature of crime became threatening not only nationally, but also regionally and internationally. Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as one of the leading regional organization in the region saw that this situation is a concern for not only the member states, but also the people in it, so that they issued the Drug Free ASEAN Vision 2015. ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters (ASOD) as one of the institutional mechanism in ASEAN is the main driver in attaining this vision with its mechanism and ASEAN Work Plan on Combating Illicit Drug Production, Trafficking, and Use (2009 -2015) or ASOD Work Plan. Using securitization and neo liberalist institutionalism, this thesis aims in exploring how has ASOD influence the eradication of illicit drug trafficking issue in Golden Triangle area.
